About Clarendon

Clarendon is a 3.5-acre redevelopment at the heart of Oxford, on the corner of Cornmarket Street and Queen Street. The site has been a place of public gathering for at least four centuries. It began as the Star Inn, one of Oxford's most important coaching inns, and was home through the Victorian era to the Clarendon Hotel, where Charles Dodgson dined on its opening night in 1863. The Clarendon was demolished in 1955 and replaced by a Woolworth's. Most recently the site operated as the Clarendon Centre shopping mall until 2025.

Conceived by Roy Sebag and designed by Quinlan Terry CBE, Clarendon is being developed by Goldmoney Properties as a mixed-use scheme of retail, leisure, and office, organised around a large central square, approximately 41 by 42 metres. Construction is underway.
